Several teachers are benefitting from an ongoing training session which will equip them with knowledge on how to help persons living in Guyana with acquiring literacy skills. The National Literacy Department attached to the Ministry of Education in an effort to mitigate the worrying number of persons who do not possess this skill, hosted a National Literacy volunteer conference on Tuesday at the Ramada Princess Hotel. This conference which will last for three days is expected to equip the volunteers with the relevant knowledge and skills to help children become better listeners, speakers, writers and readers. The Chief Education Officer Dr Marcel Hutson advised the volunteers to make good use of the training they receive over the three days period. Many teachers who are among the volunteers also shared their desires to assist children with acquiring literacy skills.
