SERGEANT SHAMEKA DEVONISH DEDICATED TO KEEPING SOLDIERS FIT, HEALTHY

Joining the army was not the first career choice for Sergeant Shameka Devonish, but looking back she said it was the best decision she made 14 years ago. Sergeant Devonish is hoping to become the leading physiotherapist in the Guyana Defence Force. Physiotherapists play a key role in ensuring soldiers are fit and healthy. Sergeant Devonish is a single mother of two from Haslington, East Coast Demerara. She is the rehabilitation assistant for the army, but also dabbles in a bit of electrical work. During an interview with the News Room, she explained how she has managed to overcome challenges, while urging more women to join the Force.
