REGION NINE FEMALES EYEING SUCCESSFUL FOOTBALL DEFENCE AT HERITAGE GAMES

Region Nine team Paiwomak Warriors were champions of the female football competition at the Amerindian Heritage Games in 2019.

But due to COVID-19 restrictions over the past two years, the annual Games was put on hold and the Warriors, made up primarily of players from the North Rupununi, had to wait longer than usual for the opportunity to defend the title.

This weekend they put that trophy on the line as the Games return in grand fashion at the Everest Cricket Club ground in the city.

Two players- Janet, returning from the championship-winning side in 2019, and Zena, a newcomer- spoke to News Room Sport moments after the Games were declared open on Friday morning.
