IGNORE THE NOISE –
My charge to more than 2,000 young leaders from across the world who are gathered in Manchester, UK, at the One Young World 2022 Summit. The truth is, once you are doing work, and good work, there will always be noise. The naysayers and critics will always have criticisms, and not necessarily constructive ones, about our work. But if we want to achieve our objectives and create real impact, we must find a way to filter the noise.
I also used the forum to shed light on period poverty and its impact on education in Guyana. I highlighted how the Menstrual Hygiene Initiative is being used as one of the vehicles to achieving gender equality by allowing girls to attend school, unhindered, every day of the school year. The response of the crowd was truly inspiring and reminded me why I began doing this in the first place.
This opportunity was more than just to raise awareness. It was also about mobilizing international support, as I was also able to connect and establish relationships with young leaders who have been doing work in sexual and reproductive health in every corner of the globe.
