While the surprise selection of the uncapped Yannic Cariah for the West Indies World T20 squad has generated much chatter around the Caribbean, questions have been asked about the non-selection of Andre Russell and Sunil Narine, both T20 World Cup winners.

Russell has not played since the last World T20 in 2021, and Narine last represented West Indies in 2019.

Speaking to regional media operatives after the announcement of the squad on Wednesday, Lead Selector Desmond Haynes said it was simply a case of the panel deciding to ‘move on’ from Russell, while Narine, it seemed, was ‘not interested’ in playing for the West Indies.
